What Is An Itch And Why Do We Scratch?

An itch is usually caused by the nerve endings being attacked by something, but not enough to hurt. This could be a parasite such as a nit or louse, but may even be something as simple as loose flaky skin. Rarely, it can be caused by the brain thinking that the nerve ending is being irritated, but in reality, it is actually a signal from elsewhere in the body. Very often it is nothing to worry about, but if it is persistent, get it checked out professionally.
